the 50 best books in the world... Probably

Repeat after me, "There is no Canon"! Sick of people telling you what you need to read? I prefer fantasy fiction, Warhammer series, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, etc. I also enjoy the works of Poe and H.G.Wells and any decent dystopian novel goes down a treat.

But, for those of us that want to put ourselves through the furnace of quality literature that will hopefully pass on good lessons, here are my top 50 picks:
So there we have a fine starting point for anyone that wants to up their reading game. What do you think about the selection? Feel free to leave your comments, what to add/remove,

Cheers,

Den.

Where the West went wrong

There is something rotten in the west and we all inherently know it, some even speak it, but no one stands against it, because we are all indoctrinated to be good boys and girls and do what our Government says is best, here's my short run down of how the West was lost:
  1. Capitalism - Following from the imperial march of Britain that tiny little country that narrowly avoided ruling the world and won both world wars, our reward was Capitalism, the pursuit of money at all costs, no matter the suffering of the people trampled on to get there. Capitalism is all destroying, any spiritual concern we once had, has now been replaced by an overarching  concern to make more money and spend it on useless things. No longer is man held in regard because he is just, or has a conscience, or helps others with his time and kindly words. Society is now guided by free market capitalism, greed, money. Man is now regarded by how much money they make, the car they drive, the house they live in, the clothes they wear. Is this what we in the west deem a 'positive good'? We have became utterly materialistic, God has been marginalised and without meaning in Western values, we have a knew God, the worship of money and we will slit our grannies throats to get it. Capitalism is the most addictive and soul destroying drug to date, but our main political parties love it, because it controls the masses so easily.
  2. Utter contempt for justice - Britain went from a lawless state of villages scattered over the country to a country of extreme legalism. Laws are made and broken by politicians that have seized temporary political power and whom see fit to make or break laws that suit their own political ends at any given time. Minor infractions of parking or speed laws see heavy fines while murderers, rapists and paedophiles are given the keys to the city with alarming regularity. Justice in Britain is a forgotten term, the strict letter of the law where courts are clogged with minor non-crimes and litigation between individuals while people at the top gorge themselves on luxury as those at the bottom struggle to put food in to their children's mouths. We care nothing for justice in the west, only the politicians laws hold validity here.
  3. The evils of the press - In Stalin's communist Russia, the press was state controlled, propaganda was order of the day, even Orwell stood against it's evils, yet in the west we see another extreme, freedom of the press. The freedom of our press can see them take a mans life, his career, his family, physically dissect it, twist the facts as they please to sell their turgid rags, destroy a mans profession, career and reputation, tear it to pieces and not have to fear the consequences, just so they can  get a payday from the Capitalist incentives that say if you want to be paid this week, destroys a mans life! Journalistic freedom is a euphemism for Government by terror. Government could stop the press from such terrorist attacks, but under the banner of  'freedom' they can take an innocent man, completely destroy his reputation and move on to their next victim without a moments thought. The press is nothing but state sanctioned terrorism!
